| General Inquiries Last year I was running around and heard a bunch of kids saying that there were "no rules" at the convention. What's up with that? The short answer? Some parents give birth to idiots. Kei-kon is a university event, not a babysitting center, and if we have to put up with crap like last year again we're going to have to start putting horrific age restrictions on the convention for our own sake. Until then, police your friends so that we don't have to. The convention adheres to all local saftey laws, and anyone who breaks such obvious common sense policies risks ejection from the convention, an escort off of campus, or a casual chat with the Saanich Police Department. Seriously. We do this event for you guys, so do us a favor back. I'm underage. Do I need to be accompanied by an adult? Kei-kon is held at a safe, university setting during normal hours. As such we don't really see the need for kids over 12 to be supervised. If your parents would trust you to head to downtown Victoria for some shopping with friends you should be fine here. If you're under twelve you should get parental approval. Can I enter your anime music video contest? Sure. Just send a digital copy of your work to uvicanime@yahoo.com with a CC to spookybot@msn.com (we prefer if you use YouSendIt.com). Direct inquiries are welcome, so if you have questions just fire them at spookybot@msn.com. Also, please tell us where you're from because we try and get as much local content in as possible. We also have the following regulations: *Video Quality must be high. We don't want to give anyone a migraine. *We try and keep our videos PG-13, more or less, so please no Bible Black set to Evanescence. *No subtitles. We don't deal with that. This is a contest, so please try and keep your videos quality. *No stop-motion videos, please. AMV's are dynamic--which usually means moving pictures. *No excessive non-video content. This includes intros, credits, etc. Can I work for Kei-kon? What does it get me? Sure you can. If you want to volunteer for Kei-kon please send an email to zathan_@hotmail.com. If you get accepted by the great and powerful Dale you'll get into the convention for a lot cheaper and get free stuffs at the concession. Mmm... stuffs. What's this big surprise you keep talking about? It's a surprise for you, so shaddup. Okay, whatever. So why hasn't it happened yet? Apparently the difficulties in pulling it off were a surprise to us. Did you completely forget about the surprise? Yeah, a little. We spent a lot more time this year working on events than new gimmicks. I think it'll work better that way. I thought you said you were moving to a new location this year? So did we. Then when we scoped it out we realized that while it would be awesome for anime, events, and general hanging out, it didn't have space for a Dealer's Room. We can't abide by that, so we're in the process of looking for another space. Unfortunetely, booking something able to contain our sizable convention population costs a bit more than we're willing to pay, especially since we're fighting against a Registration Price increase. We want it to be fun and cheap for everyone. We are non-profit, after all. Kai, why wasn't X part of the site done on time? Sarcastic answer: The government. They're watching me. I have to plan my work accordingly, even if it means I have to do some parts of the site a month after I first planned. Real answer: I kind of forgot. Life is a busy thing and sometimes I even forget about Kei-kon. Gasp. I know you might be busy, Kai, but for crap's sake, the site is three months late! That's not a question, but okay. Well, it's like my momma always said: shut your yap or no dinner tonight, either! ....okay, maybe not. What a lot of people forget is that we're all students, most of which are about to graduate, which means we have a lot on our plate. Myself, I'm just about done with my double-degree in Business and Visual Arts, and you don't want to hear about how much work that is. Alright, well why don't they give Webmaster status to someone else? They've tried. Kelly still has a limp if you look really closely. No, really though,I've been hear since Kei-kon One, and I'm tradition. Hell, I was even supposed to host the iPod rave with DJ. Diasco two years ago, but I haven't been able to make the convention since Kei-kon 3, so blah. I might be around this year though, so keep an eye out. Registration F.A.Q. When does Kei-kon Start? Friday: The Convention begins at 3pm and runs until 11pm. Saturday: 9am-11pm Sunday: 9am-6pm Can I show up early on Friday? Yes, but the Registration line will not be processed until 2pm at the earliest. So yes, technically you can. If you're staff, please show up as early as possible. Do I have to Register? Yep. Unless you're staff, in which case you still have to register, just a different way. If you want to volunteer, drop Dale Cope a line. He's on our staff page. Why should I Register? Because your registration fees help fund out booking of the building, equipment, and help us fund our events and contests. You want to support us, right? If not, then why show up at all? Does my badge from last year still work? As a symbol of your loyalty and love of our convention, yes. As a badge at this year's con? No, not really. Think of it as a relic from times since past. Hold on to them, though, since they might be worth a pretty penny! Cosplay F.A.Q. Can I do X Skit at the Cosplay Contest? Sure, so long as it isn't gross and it gets past the Cosplay Coordinator during the rehersal on Saturday. You can do or dress like anything you want, so long as it conforms to the legal definition of behavior. How do I enter the cosplay contest? There's a sign up at the Registration desk on Friday night and Saturday morning. So long as you're signed up by 12:00pm noon, Pacific Standard Time, you should be able to get in. You also must attend the mandatory rehersal on Saturday at noon. Yeah, it takes a lot of your day--but the prizes are worth it. Have more questions? Send them to uvicanime@yahoo.com or spookybot@msn.com |
